Family Resources | Week of July 31st

Preschool

This month preschoolers are learning that Jesus can help them do everything. This week they see this when they learn about John 3:16. When they choose self-control and say no to what they want and yes to Jesus, He can help them to do everything!

Lead Their Growth: While on the go, encourage your child by telling them ways you’ve seen them show self-control.

Elementary

This month elementary students are learning that what we do today can change the world around us. This week, we looked at the importance of our words (James 3:1-6) and the main point was the Holy Spirit can help you have self control.

Monthly Verse: “God began a good work in you. And I am sure that he will carry it on until it is completed. That will be on the day Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6, NIrV

Lead Their Growth: Ask, “When it is hard to have self-control?” and pray over those situations together that the Holy Spirit would help each member of your family have self-control.

Students

We're looking at questions students tend to have about the Bible. Last week we looked at the creation story and this week we're looking at Noah and the flood story. We're looking at the themes of holiness, justice, and mercy. The flood story is a story of de-creation -- God is so grieved by the choices of humans that he hands creation over to disorder. The flood is an undoing of Genesis 1.

Lead Their Growth: Talk to your student about God's holiness and his justice. How do they see God creating and sustaining order in their lives? How can they live a life of repentance and surrender to God? You can even talk about God's grief -- is there something in your students' life that they think is grieving God right now?
